The Church-Yonge Corridor encompasses a narrow north-south stretch of the downtown core between Yonge and Jarvis streets, reaching from Front Street up to Bloor Street.Located in Ward 27, it includes a mix of retail, single family and high-rise dwellings. The neighbourhood includes the Church-Wellesley Village, which has long been associated with the city’s LGBT community and which hosts Pride Week events – including the Pride Parade – each summer.
Further south, the neighbourhood is home to Ryerson University and its Mattamy Athletic Centre, formerly the iconic Maple Leaf Gardens, once home to the Toronto Maple Leafs.St. Michael’s
Hospital stands at Queen and Victoria streets, and the area is home to such historic entertainment venues as Massey Hall, the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatres and Buddies in Bad Times.
It has become more pedestrian-friendly in summer thanks to the Celebrate Yonge initiative, and other green spaces in the neighbourhood include St. James Park, Cawthra Square, Ryerson Community Park and Norman Jewison Park.It is well-served by transit, with the Yonge subway line running along its eastern edge and several bus and streetcar lines serving the area.
